Miguel Belmonte

President and CEO, Philippine Star

As president and CEO of The Philippine Star and BusinessWorld, Miguel Belmonte is a force shaping the Philippine media landscape as it faces an especially turbulent time

Since its founding in 1986, The Philippine Star has printed three words under its masthead: “Truth Shall Prevail”. This is its motto, its core belief, and also the mandate of its founder, the late Betty Go-Belmonte. Today, about 35 years since the Star printed its first issue, that mandate has become more difficult than ever to carry out.

Still, The Philippine Star carries on, and despite the challenges of the social media age, it remains one of the biggest media companies in the country. Much of that is owed to the leadership of Miguel Belmonte, president and CEO of The Philippine Star, and the third son of its founder.

After taking the reins in 1998, Belmonte grew his mother’s company exponentially, both in terms of size and influence. Now, the PhilStar Media Group is a colossal multimedia enterprise that includes People Asia, BusinessWorld, The Freeman, Pilipino Star Ngayon, Pang-Masa, Banat, and InterAksyon.
