Co-Founders, Ruci

Established by Tommy Sibarani, Melin Turisno and Rio Pasaribu, the 450m industrial art gallery exhibits the works of young up-and-coming Indonesian artists. The trio decided to open Ruci because of their love for art despite their inexperience with running an art gallery. As the name Ruci (derived from the Sanskrit word for “meaningful light source”) suggests, they aim to illuminate art by providing a light-filled experimental space for artists, presenting the artwork in an engaging manner, and promoting the public’s appreciation for art. Hence, the artspace regularly has solo and group exhibitions with varied mediums of expressions, including new media, painting and installation art, all of which reflects the cultural identity of today’s generation. Ruci held its first solo exhibition “Hole in the Wall” in 2014, and held its grand opening for the public in 2015. In 2017, they presented a second edition of a collectors show, “Y: Collect 2.0”, featuring contemporary art collections. Additionally, they have guided exhibition tours, talks and workshops to keep dialogue about art fresh, and to motivate people to curate private collections that are “intelligent, strategic and even playful”. They also have a research book that records the creation of various artworks.
