Maudy Ayunda

Musician, actress and influencer Maudy Ayunda uses her stature to address issues against modern slavery and education

While Oxford-educated Maudy Ayunda has built an illustrious career in the entertainment industry as a singer-songwriter and actress, her work in activism puts the social-conscience icing on her success. She has played leading roles in more than ten movies, including Riri Riza’s Untuk Rena (Dear Rena) (2005), for which she won Best Female Leading Role at the Jakarta Film Festival. She has also released three music albums.

With all eyes on Ayunda, however, she has re-directed public attention to literacy and youth issues. Ayunda is also passionate about campaigning to fight modern slavery. Since 2017, she was appointed a spokesperson against modern slavery as a spokesperson for Global Freedom Network.

Though discouraged to do so, Ayunda insisted on going to the UK’s University of Oxford to study a degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. Currently, she is finishing her Master’s at Stanford University, USA, specialising in MBA and Education. Ayunda also founded the non-profit organisation Inspira, a platform to support career development and mentorship for young Indonesians.
