Mark Nicdao is a photographer and artist known for his keen eye and powerful images
Known for his evocative portraits and striking artistic vision, Mark Nicdao is one of the Philippines’ most celebrated photographers and visual artists. His work—spanning photography, painting, and mixed media—captures both glamour and raw emotion, earning him acclaim in fashion, art and beyond.
Initially known for his editorial and celebrity portraiture, Nicdao’s evolution into the world of fine art began with Portal 5.122: The Imaginings of a Disinhibiting Manic Neurotransmitter (2022), a kaleidoscopic exhibition that explored human consciousness through vivid, psychedelic imagery. His subsequent show, Chapter 8: Misfired Synapse, held in Venice in 2023, reflected on fragility, resilience and balance through surreal compositions that cemented his place in the international art scene.
In 2025, Nicdao reached a new career pinnacle when the J Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles acquired five of his photographic portraits—including those of Iza Calzado, Jo Ann Bitagcol and Nancy Castiglione—for its permanent collection. This historic milestone marks the first time works by a contemporary Filipino portraitist have entered the Getty’s archives, affirming Nicdao’s place on the global art stage.
Beyond his creative achievements, Nicdao remains a passionate advocate for art education in the Philippines, championing the next generation of Filipino artists and their rightful place in the world’s leading cultural institutions.
