Curating Manila’s luxury fashion with global vision and local impact

For four decades, Mark “Jappy” Gonzalez has shaped Manila’s luxury fashion landscape, introducing avant-garde and high-end international brands through multi-brand stores like Homme et Femme, Univers and Archives, as well as mono-brand fashion outlets including Comme des Garçons, Fred Perry, AMI Paris, Moreau Paris, Maison Kitsune and Y-3, including his venture into F&B with Omotesando Koffee and beauty with Officine Universelle Buly. His curatorial sensibility and strategic vision have cultivated a sophisticated local market while maintaining global relevance.

In 2017, Gonzalez became the first Filipino based in the Philippines included in the prestigious Business of Fashion (BoF) 500, cementing his status as a global industry influencer. Since then, he has continued to adapt to evolving market trends, integrating digital strategies into his stores to enhance customer experience while preserving the immersive nature of brick-and-mortar retail.

In 2025, Gonzalez celebrated his 40th anniversary, marking decades of contribution to Manila’s fashion industry and cultural landscape. Gonzalez is pursuing new store openings, digital projects, and collaborations with Filipino designers, demonstrating a commitment to local talent and community impact.

Through his curated stores, local collaborations, and strategic adaptability, Gonzalez has consistently set trends rather than followed them. His influence bridges international luxury with Filipino creativity, ensuring that H&F Retail Concepts remains a platform for innovation, cultural reflection, and the development of the next generation of fashion professionals in the Philippines.
