Maritess Tantoco-Enriquez

Board Member, Rustan’s

Armed with a keen sense of style and expertise in gemology, director Maritess Tantoco-Enriquez cements Rustan’s as the vanguard of taste in luxury retail

There are few names that embody the word “taste,” and the Tantocos are one of them. This is the legacy of the late Glecy Tantoco, a purveyor of taste who built the iconic Rustan’s Department Store from a tiny shop first intended to curate beautiful and unique items from their travels. It is this tasteful spirit that Maritess Tantoco-Enriquez embodies, and it’s obvious that she has learned much from her mother — particularly, the importance of knowing and understanding exactly what you’re selling.

Tantoco-Enriquez never left it all up to something as subjective as taste (of which she admittedly has plenty). She would spend years studying gemology in New York and Morocco, and would later apply her expertise appraising jewellery in acquiring new items for various Rustan’s outlets. This hands-on approach remains a hallmark in her ethic as director of the Rustan Group of Companies — and even in her personal life, where she pursues her advocacy to support small food vendors making delicacies from Bulacan, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, and even Ilocos Norte amid the lockdowns.
