In 2022, Marcus Yam was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography, one of the most coveted achievements in the industry. Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, the photographer has also been honoured with the Emmy Award for News and Documentary, a World Press Photo Award and an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award.

Some of his most notable works include covering the fall of Afghanistan and the withdrawal of American troops in 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic in Tijuana, Mexico, and the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan as the Taliban took over.

The LA-based photographer has put himself in the middle of war zones and conflicts just to get a shot that evokes deep emotion and intensity. Photo by photo, Yam immortalises a piece of history through the lens of his camera.
