Multimedia artist, fashion and interior designer, founder, Mai Lam Wearable Art
THE INNOVATORS | The designer transforms fashion into wearable art, weaving Vietnamese heritage into contemporary design
Mai Lam is one of Vietnam’s pioneering figures in the field of wearable art. With a singular vision, she transforms fashion into works imbued with personal meaning and stories of Vietnamese culture, moving far beyond conventional trends.
She has the calm of an artist’s soul, the quiet defiance of someone in search of new horizons and the depth of a woman carrying many layers of memory. For her, fashion is a bridge where traditional values are revitalised to resonate with a contemporary rhythm. While time and modern life may push these traditions aside, Mai Lam continues to go against the current, tracing the sources of heritage with patience and care.
Her life reads like a novel, shaped by journeys across continents and through unfamiliar lands. Yet her heart remains anchored in Vietnam, carrying memories of family, simple ways of life and a love of handicrafts. From this foundation, she created Mai Lam Wearable Art. With embossed embroidery, Mai Tu Quy stitching and naturally dyed silk brocade, her work reflects a singular dedication to preserving intrinsic value while reimagining it for today.
“Every sustainable creation must start from the ‘root’, the place that holds the culture, history and experiences that shape identity. That is the only fulcrum for going far.”
