Magie Abang Saufi

Tatler Asia

For Magie Abang Saufi, style is less a destination than a reflection of the journey.

She doesn’t chase trends, nor does she think in terms of “arriving” at a signature look. Instead, her wardrobe shifts and matures alongside her life, each chapter shaped by travel, experiences, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing oneself.

“I wouldn’t say I follow trends,” she says with a smile. “My style evolves with my lifestyle. As I grow, travel, and experience more, what I wear reflects that.” It’s an approach that’s refreshingly free of artifice, yet unmistakably chic.

Magie’s philosophy has been affirmed in moments both grand and unexpected. One of her favourites happened over a decade ago in a Paris nightclub during Fashion Week, when Stephen Jones—the legendary British milliner—admired her turban. “It reminded me that when you stay true to your style, it quietly speaks for itself,” she recalls.

Her inspirations are as multifaceted as her own aesthetic. Iris Apfel’s fearless maximalism, Bianca Jagger’s impeccable tailoring, and Tilda Swinton’s androgynous elegance each represent a quality she values: individuality, timelessness, and artistry. “Together, they embody confidence, authenticity, and a sense of style that goes beyond trends,” she says.

And while her wardrobe holds plenty of treasures, her most recent purchase was disarmingly down-to-earth: two linen shirts for her grandson. It’s a reminder that style, for Magie, is deeply personal, an extension of care, identity, and the life she lives.

If fashion is often about being seen, Magie’s style is about being understood. It’s not loud, but it’s eloquent; not fixed, but always in conversation with the person she’s becoming. And in that, she embodies the quiet power of true elegance.

When you stay true to your style, it quietly speaks for itself.
