Founder, Femtech Future; co-founder, Women’s Health in Focus
To improve women’s health, Maaike Steinebach wants the world to be more open about sex
Maaike Steinebach is on a mission to improve women’s health in Asia. With a host of initiatives designed to dissolve stigma and get sexual issues on the agenda in Asia, she is using technology to democratise the financial, physical, mental and sexual well-being of everyone, but women in particular.
In 2023, she became the co-CEO of the Femtech Association Asia, the region’s first membership-based femtech industry network. She is also behind advisory firm Femtech Future, which advises both femtech companies and other corporations about how they can maximise their positive impact on women’s health and drive femtech innovation forward.
She is an advisor to and investor in sextech startups including Sextech School, which educates people for careers in the sextech industry; Nancy, which makes sex toys aimed at women of limited sexual experience; Luuna, a maker of organic, reusable menstrual products; and AI-powered employee well-being software company MixCare Health. She has even spoken about the future of sex at SXSW.
She is the co-founder of the Women’s Health Innovation Council; FemTechNL, a nonprofit femtech startup community in the Netherlands; the Fintech Association of Hong Kong; the Hong Kong Women Chief Executive Network; and Hong Kong Women In Tech. She is also a board member of educational NGO Splash Foundation.
Before embarking on her advocacy career, she spent 25 years working in financial services, most recently as CEO of Visa Hong Kong and Macau. She has also had leadership positions at Fortis Bank, ABN Amro and Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
