Puregold chairman and owner Lucio Co maintains a relatively low profile. Instead of keeping the same buzz that other tycoons have enjoyed, he instead works quietly, steadily building a retail empire: one that provides astounding value to Filipinos from all sectors of society. 

Originally in the oil business, Co crafted a masterplan to bring affordable goods and seamless service to Filipinos amid the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. Through Puregold, hypermarket shopping (where all products are in one level) has skyrocketed as the preferred shopping option by the public. Through his savvy command in business, Co managed to expand Puregold from a single branch to over 200 nationwide, later establishing the Tindahan ni Aling Puring program which provided sari-sari store owners with more entrepreneurial leverage through competitive prices. 

Despite its massive success, Co had bigger plans for Philippine retail shopping, later acquiring S&R Membership Shopping to bring USA’s warehouse bulk-buying model to the country. Now in real estate, wine and liquor industries, Co’s business aptitude continues to silently shine for the betterment of Philippine society.
