Louise Wong chose a particularly nerve-racking way to make her silver screen debut: portraying Hong Kong’s universally loved singer and actor Anita Mui, who died tragically young, in the film Anita (2022). Chosen from among 3,000 candidates after a three year search, she found the pressure of being handed the role so overwhelming that she has said she spent two days locked in a hotel room crying when she received the news. She needn’t have worried: her knockout performance, which involved six months of training, won her the best new performer award and a best actress nomination at the 40th Hong Kong Film Awards. She then went on to star in A Guilty Conscience (2023), the highest-grossing local film in Hong Kong, about the trial of a single mother wrongly accused of the murder of her daughter, for which she picked up a best actress nomination at the Golden Rooster Awards.

Born in Shangdong, Wong moved to Hong Kong as a child. Her first love was fashion: she started modelling aged 16 when she the Asia Pacific regional contest of Elite Model Look, becoming the only Hongkonger to have done so. She has also studied fashion design—it was one of her teachers who encouraged her to enter the modelling competition—and she has worked as a stylist in the past. These days, she has become a favourite of brands including Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Giorgio Armani and Omega.

Wong is married to Australian-born Hong Kong actor and singer Sheldon Lo. She has one daughter, Affa.
