First lady, Republic of the Philippines
The First Lady of the Philippines is a champion of culture, education and civic engagements
A career in law and education anchors Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos’s public life, shaped by decades of teaching in public schools and ongoing advocacy for constitutional awareness. This foundation informs her work as First Lady, where she focuses on culture, heritage, healthcare and civic engagement. Her leadership in restoring historic government properties—such as Bahay Pangulo, Bahay Ugnayan, Laperal, Teus and Goldenberg Mansions—supports broader efforts to revitalise cultural spaces in both the Malacañang complex and Intramuros.
In 2025, she brought national attention to Filipino craftsmanship through Likha, an event highlighting artisans from across the country. Her involvement with the Asian Cultural Council Philippines Foundation, where she serves as Honorary Chairperson, strengthens cultural exchange by supporting fellowships for artists, scholars and arts professionals.
Healthcare remains a priority through the Lab for All programme, which delivers medical consultations, laboratory services, and essential medicines directly to underserved communities, aligning with the government’s universal healthcare agenda. She also advances the rehabilitation of the Pasig River, particularly the development of the Pasig River Esplanade to create a people-centred public space with walkways, bike lanes and green areas.
Her role in establishing the Presidential Library at the National Library of the Philippines further reflects her commitment to education and heritage. By facilitating the preservation and public access of more than 66,000 historical books from Malacañang, she reinforces the importance of accessible knowledge and historical stewardship.
