The museum director at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, historian and arts administrator Louis Ng took up the role in 2019. Part of the city’s West Kowloon Cultural District, the US$450 million Hong Kong Palace Museum opened in 2022. Designed by Hong Kong based Rocco Design Architects Associates, it features nearly 900 artefacts on loan from the Palace Museum in Beijing across its more than 300,000 square feet of exhibition space.

Ng has been involved in running museums in the city for over 30 years, previously spending 13 years working for the Hong Kong government’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department, first as assistant director and then as deputy director, with a specific remit to look after the museums and arts venues under its care. He started working in public museums in 1988; from 1992 to 2002 he was a curator at the Hong Kong Museum of History, while between 2002 and 2006 he was executive secretary of the government’s Antiquities and Monuments Office. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
