Loh Boon Chye

CEO, Singapore Exchange

Loh Boon Chye drives change and innovation in the financial services sector

One of the first tasks Loh Boon Chye engaged in when he was appointed CEO of Singapore Exchange (SGX) in 2015 was to position the bourse operator as a gateway to Asia and to different asset classes. SGX had been facing poor investor confidence and limp trading volumes, and was in need of a nudge to turn things around. As a consequence, SGX has strengthened its multi-asset capabilities. It now boasts a raft of offerings ranging from equities to fixed income, currencies and commodities, and has made deeper inroads into the foreign exchange market.

SGX has also expanded its global presence to 10 cities, started new businesses such as SGX Index Edge in 2015, as well as engaged in the strategic acquisitions of the Baltic Exchange in 2016 and Scientific Beta and BidFX in 2020. It also established Singapore Exchange Regulation, a distinct subsidiary to manage frontline regulatory functions.

He sits on the boards of GIC, the Singapore Economic Development Board and the World Federation of Exchanges, and is a council member and Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore. He is also co-chair of the Council for Board Diversity, a government body that addresses female under‑representation on company boards.

With earnings of SG$451.4 million in August 2022, the portal that he launched to streamline sustainability reporting in the financial sector is making waves.
