The realty gamechanger converted an old building into one of Kuala Lumpur’s most exciting art hubs
Liza Ho

Liza Ho's academic background in finance was a bold choice for someone who wanted a career in the field of art. But Ho was determined, and proceeded to immerse herself in Malaysia’s art circles to earn her stripes. From 2008 to 2012, Ho was one of the core members of Valentine Willie Fine Art, a commercial gallery that built a reputation as a showcase for the best in Southeast Asian art.

Fast forward to 2013, Ho co-founded OUR ArtProjects, a platform for regional art that has since expanded its services to include art management and professional consultancy. Today, Ho runs The Zhongshan Building, an emblematic city landmark that has been converted into a creative centre, becoming one of the most exciting and progressive art and research hubs in Kuala Lumpur.

The Back Room gallery is the latest addition to Ho’s portfolio. It joins The Zhongshan Building’s eclectic mix of tenants that includes a bakery, a record store, and a typography studio, among others. It is a gallery space that hosts experiential exhibits and is committed to providing a platform for bold, alternative art.
