The first Taiwanese woman to lead a publicly listed semiconductor company in the United States
Lisa Su’s career began at Texas Instruments, and she later held several technical and management positions at IBM, participating in the research and development of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology to enhance semiconductor chip performance. In 2008, she joined Freescale Semiconductor as chief technology officer, driving the company into a new generation.
In 2012, Su joined AMD as senior vice president and general manager of Global Business Units. In 2014, she was promoted to president and CEO, becoming the first Taiwanese woman to lead a publicly listed semiconductor company in the United States. Under her leadership, AMD focused on high-performance computing and graphics technology, launching products such as the Ryzen series processors and Radeon series graphics cards, successfully challenging competitors and revitalising market confidence.
Born in Tainan, Su has a deep affection for Taiwan. She views Taiwan as an important part of the global semiconductor ecosystem and actively promotes AMD’s investments and collaborations in Taiwan. In 2024, she was selected as an academician by the Industrial Technology Research Institute, recognising her contributions to the semiconductor industry.
