Yun Ju Lin

Table tennis player

Yun Ju Lin, the left-handed table tennis player with a shakehand grip, is Taiwan’s latest sporting sensation

In three years, Yun Ju Lin moved up 128 spots to land at his current position as number six in the world. At the recent Tokyo Summer Olympics, a then 19-year-old Lin was close to clinching a bronze medal but was defeated by DImitrij Ovtcharov of Germany, and will be remembered for his epic battle with no. 1 player Fan Zhendong of China in the semi-finals. At the mixed doubles event, he and Taiwanese partner Cheng I-Cheng brought home the bronze. His performance was considered outstanding for an Olympic first-timer, and this experience will only help him get better.

Lin started playing table tennis in the third grade, and at 14 he officially became a member of the national team, the youngest player ever to do so. He achieved a major milestone by winning his first World Tour title at the 2019 ITTF World Tour Czech Open, where he beat Ovtcharov in the final. Lin is called The Silent Assassin for his calm composure under pressure.
