Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai founded and leads Top Glove, the world’s largest manufacturer of gloves with a total production capacity of 100 billion pieces per annum.

Lim initially worked in air-conditioning sales for several years before he and his wife invested their entire savings of RM180,000 into establishing Top Glove, starting with just one production line. Over the next three decades, he led the company’s expansion, significantly multiplying its production across 50 factories across Malaysia, Thailand, China and Vietnam, with a total of 800 production lines.

Along the way, he also took the company public, which saw Top Glove become the second-largest listed company on Bursa Malaysia due to the high demand for gloves during the pandemic.

In 2016, Lim obtained his PhD in Management from University of Selangor. He is an avid supporter of Tzu Chi, a Buddhist charitable organisation that originated in Taiwan. He and his wife Tong Siew Bee are part of the strong network of volunteers at the charity.

Manufacturing rubber gloves is not Lim’s first experience in dealing with the commodity. His parents were rubber plantation owners and traders, and growing up, he used to help them out on the estate during weekends.
