A Malaysian premium ice cream chain founder, Lim Shiew Li helped to transform the Malaysian dessert landscape

Lim Shiew Li is the co-founder and one half of the husband-and-wife team behind the successful homegrown ice cream chain Inside Scoop. A former insurance product manager based in Singapore, Lim and her husband Edmund came up with the idea of a local premium ice cream brand after noticing a gap in the market in terms of flavours that served the Malaysian palate.

Backed by her training at Gelato University in Italy, Lim returned to Malaysia and started experimenting with natural local ingredients, which turned out surprisingly well in ice cream. With her husband Edmund Tan, she established the first Inside Scoop ice-cream parlour in 2013 in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.

With hardly any artisanal ice cream parlours around at the time, let alone an outlet that was churning out unique and distinctly local flavours like durian, cempedak, teh tarik, cendol, kopi peng and salted gula melaka, Inside Scoop quickly grew a fanbase.

The couple now has more than 20 stores and counting.
