CEO, GIC
Lim Chow Kiat is the driver of GIC’s investment and organisational strategies
Appointed chief executive officer of GIC in January 2017, Lim Chow Kiat leads one of the world’s largest sovereign-wealth funds—estimated at over US$800 billion in assets—through an era defined by technological disruption, inflationary cycles and shifting geopolitics.
Having joined GIC as a portfolio manager in 1993 after graduating with first-class honours in accountancy from Nanyang Technological University, Lim rose through key leadership roles including president of GIC Asset Management, president of GIC Europe, group chief investment officer and deputy group president. Today, he chairs the Group Executive Committee that governs GIC’s investment, risk and business decisions, and is responsible for the overall performance and long-term strategy of the fund.
Under his stewardship, GIC has prioritised four enduring trends—digitalisation, sustainability, geopolitics and a changing China—as pillars shaping the fund’s future positioning. Lim has frequently cautioned investors against “valuation overshoot” amid frothy markets, advocating instead for patient capital, private-market exposure and structural resilience. In July 2025, he underscored GIC’s discipline in navigating volatility through long-term value creation and diversification across infrastructure, AI and green investments.
Beyond GIC, Lim chairs the Wealth Management Institute and sits on the boards of the National Research Foundation, Agence France Trésor’s Strategic Committee, and the World Economic Forum International Business Council. A chartered financial analyst and Stanford Executive Programme alumnus, Lim continues to refine GIC’s mission as a guardian of Singapore’s reserves—balancing scale with agility, and stewardship with foresight.
