With his expertise in the hospitality sector, Lilik Oetama has grown Kompas Gramedia into much more than just a mass-media company

CEO of Kompas Gramedia Group, Lilik Oetama took over the giant conglomerate in 2015, five years before the passing of his father and the company’s co-founder, Jakob Oetama. The media arm of Kompas Gramedia, KG Media, publishes a huge number of newspaper and magazine titles. Among its many achievements, the group is responsible for Kompas which, since it was launched in 1965, has transformed into the largest-circulating newspaper in South-East Asia.

With an extensive career in the hospitality sector, Oetama has led the company’s expansion into interests outside of the mass-media industry. Armed with a Master’s in Management from West Coast University in the United States, he started his career with the group under subsidiary and property developer Grahawita Santika in 1995, where he still serves as Executive Director.

To date, Kompas Gramedia has businesses in manufacturing and hospitality, with more than 40 Santika hotels in the country. Oetama is also President Commissioner of Dyandra Media International.

In 2021, Oetama inaugurated a statue dedicated to his father and Kompas Gramedia co-founder PK Ojong at Bentara Budaya Jakarta cultural centre as a celebration of their lives and achievements.
