Laurence Lien is a leading voice in Asian philanthropy, recognised for strengthening giving ecosystems and fostering collaboration among philanthropists. The co-founder of the Asia Philanthropy Circleis is also chairman of the Lien Foundation, a family foundation established in 1980, where he has helped shape a forward-thinking approach to early childhood development and eldercare.

In 2025, he marked Asia Philanthropy Circle’s 10th anniversary, overseeing a smooth leadership transition and reaffirming his commitment to building capacity and ensuring effective succession in the social impact sector. Lien continues to champion professionalisation and collaboration in philanthropy while leading the Lien Foundation’s work in creating systemic change through innovative partnerships.

Before co-founding Asia Philanthropy Circle, Lien was chief executive officer of Singapore’s National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre from 2008 to 2014, where he played a key role in promoting a culture of giving nationwide. In 2008, he also established the Community Foundation of Singapore, serving as its chairman from 2013 to 2019, and remains on the board of the Lien Centre for Social Innovation at Singapore Management University.

Earlier in his career, Lien served in Singapore’s Administrative Service, part of the nation’s top echelon of public sector leadership. A graduate of Oxford University, the National University of Singapore, and Harvard Kennedy School, he was awarded the Eisenhower Fellowship in 2010 and served as a nominated member of parliament from 2012 to 2014.
