Interior decorator Laura Cheung is the founder of home-decor and lifestyle studio Lala Curio, known for its singular aesthetic that fully expresses her personality. The company has become particularly famous for its hand-painted wallpaper, which is inspired by chinoiserie, traditional Japanese design, contemporary abstract art and much more.

Before launching the brand, Cheung spent two years travelling around Asia, researching its arts and crafts. She finally unveiled Lala Curio with a 4,000 sq ft booth at the March 2013 International Furniture Fair Singapore, containing 1,500 products she had designed and developed.

The company has since expanded its presence globally, with an outlet in Hong Kong and showrooms in Los Angeles, London, Paris and Bangkok. Lala Curio also takes on both commercial and residential design projects, such as the 12,000 sq ft Pier 1929 Members’ Oriental Club in Wan Chai, which opened in 2020.

Born in Australia, Cheung comes from a family long involved in traditional Chinese decorative arts, as both collectors and manufacturers.
