Named in 2022 as Hong Kong’s richest woman, Kwong Siu-hing is the single most important figure in the Kwok family, which owns Sun Hung Kai, Hong Kong’s largest and most prestigious property developer. Born in Guangzhou in 1929, she moved to Hong Kong in 1947, marrying Kwok Tak-seng, the founder of Sun Hung Kai, at the age of 20.

She is the mother of Walter, Thomas and Raymond, all of whom are or have been involved with running the company. Walter was put in charge of the Sun Hung Kai when Tak-seng died in 1990, but Siu-hing herself took over as its chairman in 2008, in the midst of a fiercely fought battle for control between Walter and his brothers. She eventually stepped down from the position in 2011, but still has the largest stake in the company, controlling more than 40 per cent of its shares through a family trust, and is consistently ranked as one of Hong Kong’s wealthiest people.
