Co-founder, chairman and CEO, Wilmar International
Agribusiness tycoon of one of the largest palm oil producers in the world
Kuok Khoon Hong is the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Wilmar International, one of the world’s largest and most integrated agribusiness groups. Since establishing the company in 1991 with his partners, Kuok has steered Wilmar to become a dominant force in edible oils, palm oil production, refining, trading, and consumer food products. The group also has significant operations in oleochemicals, specialty fats, biofuels, and sugar.
Starting with palm oil plantations and refineries in Indonesia, Kuok expanded Wilmar’s footprint across Asia, gaining deep penetration in major consumer markets such as India and China. In 2006, Wilmar International launched an IPO on the Singapore Stock Exchange with a market capitalisation of US$1.74 billion—today, it is among the top 30 listed companies on the SGX by market cap.
In recent years, Kuok has deepened Wilmar’s investments in sustainability and traceability. Wilmar remains the only Singapore company in the Food Products category listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices World Index, a recognition of its commitment to responsible sourcing and environmental stewardship. The company has advanced its digital traceability tools and regularly publishes detailed sustainability scorecards across its supply chain.
Kuok also supports education and conservation efforts. Wilmar’s “Sekolah Alam” (Nature School) in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, offers environmental education for local students and promotes conservation awareness. His personal investments include real estate stakes in China and London, including co-ownership of London’s Aviva Tower.
A quiet yet influential figure, Kuok continues to shape the future of sustainable agribusiness across Asia and beyond.
