As curator, artist, and creative director, Luxury Logico's Kun-ying Lin helps showcase Taiwan’s cultural identity

Kun-Ying Lin is an artist with a fascination for machines. He is a co-founder and creative director of LuxuryLogico, an art collective known for creating cross-border works through various media. These include film, dance, architecture, pop music, and drama. Inspired by the natural environment, modern technology, and society, LuxuryLogico is best known for a ”mechanical flame cauldron” — a reimagining of the traditional bamboo torch — that they designed for Universiade 2017.

Their most ambitious project to date is “The Sound of Blooming,” which was the main attraction at the Taichung Flower Expo 2018. The installation is a 15-meter mechanical flower made of 697 individual petals forming an enormous, red dome.

An ‘80s kid by birth and in spirit, Lin has a passion for mechanics, computing, music, design, video, photography and lighting. He successfully mounted the 2021 edition of Creative Expo Taiwan. As the event’s chief curator, he put forth diverse perspectives of Taiwanese culture and fostering an open discussion on Taiwan’s identity and beliefs.
