Korakrit Arunanondchai

Artist

Following a brush with fame as a teenage hip-hop star, artist Krit Arunanondchai has risen rapidly to global fame with his adroit mix of irony and sincerity. Described as a multi-disciplinary artist, his work is a “brilliant pastiche’, following the idea of “gesamptkunstwerk, or total work of art”, and uses a wide range of mediums and materials. For example, one of his bleached denim works has been auctioned for US$17,500. He has studied at Rhode Island School of Design (2009), Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2012), Columbia University New York (2012). A pupil of legendary Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, he was the Recipient of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Grant 2013. The artist travels frequently between Bangkok and New York, and has held solo and group exhibitions internationally, including Brussels, London, and Paris. He is planning on launching “Ghost: 2561”, a performance and video festival, as a platform for research and dialogue. He hopes the project will continue to grow, experiment and travel outside of Bangkok.
