A businessman and philanthropist who transformed Asia’s funeral industry through Nirvana Asia Group, redefining death care with dignity and innovation
Born in Kuala Lipis, Pahang, Tan Sri Kong Hon Kong is the third child out of 10.
He founded Nirvana Asia Group and has been the executive chairman since October 1990. He was appointed as managing director and CEO in February 2009. Nirvana specialises in promoting culture, most notably in funeral rites and traditions within the Malaysian Chinese community, and runs private cemeteries, columbarium facilities, and funeral homes. As the founder of the Group, Kong has been the driving force of Nirvana Asia Group’s development, growth, and expansion, and is primarily responsible for formulating its overall development strategies and business plans.
Today, Nirvana Memorial Park in Semenyih in Selangor, Malaysia is the world’s largest privatised memorial park. Nirvana Asia Group has since expanded to Shah Alam, Klang and Ijok (Selangor), Penang Island and Bukit Mertajam (Penang), Kulai, Segamat and Tiram (Johor), Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Petani (Kedah), Ipoh (Perak), Melaka, Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) and Sibu (Sarawak), and has international presence in Jakarta and Medan (Indonesia), Ban Bueng (Thailand) and Singapore—making Nirvana one of Asia’s largest death care services providers.
In 2022, Melbourne property developer Beulah joined hands with Nirvana Asia Group Kong and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts to bring a new hotel to Melbourne, Australia that will be located within Beulah's AUD2.7 billion development, STH BNK, which is set to be the tallest building in the country.
Kong is the honorary advisor of some organisations in Malaysia, including the Federation of Chinese Association of Malaysia. Tan Sri Kong has also been the honorary chairman of NV Foundation since July 2007. He’s ranked No. 23 on the list of Malaysia’s 50 richest with an estimated fortune of US$860 million.

Did You Know?
Kong feels obliged to give back to the society. Over the years, he has donated millions to charities, including spearheading an RM2.5 million donation drive for Nepal in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake in April 2015 and donating close to RM8 million worth of medical equipment and essential supplies through Nirvana Asia Group to medical frontliners battling Covid-19 and the needy affected by the pandemic.
