Kimo Stamboel

Director

Muhammad Stamboel, better known as Kimo Stamboel, is the other half of the acclaimed directorial duo The Mo Brothers, along with Timo Tjahjanto (not actually brothers, just old friends and another Gen T. Listee). Since their debut segment in the Indonesian horror anthology Takut: Faces of Fear in 2008, the duo has followed it up with Macabre in 2010, and then the 2015 box-office action hit Killers, which launched at the Sundance Festival. The dynamic duo, who met as film students at the School of Visual Arts in Sydney, bonded over having to fight their families to pursue their passions, have often strategically disengaged to “allow themselves to grow as filmmakers”. Kimo went on to direct his first solo movie in 2017: an action-packed movie entitled “Headshot”, and has returned with another film, Dreadout, in 2018. He cites Alfred Hitchcock, Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg as influences.
