Kim Atienza

TV Host

As a multihyphenate television personality, Kuya Kim Atienza has become one of the nation’s most famous dispensers of facts and forecasts

Maybe in an alternate timeline, Kim Atienza is now a prominent figure in Philippine national politics. He is, after all, the son of former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, and was once poised to follow in his father’s footsteps. The younger Atienza served as a councillor in the city of Manila from 1995 to 2004, and then ran for Congress, but lost. Then, in 2007, he was urged by his father to run for mayor. He declined, however, and instead chose to continue what had already been a successful career in broadcasting.

Since then, Atienza hasn’t looked back and is now one of the country’s most recognisable television presenters. Wearing his now-iconic full-brim hat, “Kuya Kim” presented the weather on ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol, and hosted shows like Umagang Kay Ganda and It’s Showtime, as well as the educational science show Matanglawin, for which he is best known. Then, in October 2021, he moved to GMA Network and began as a segment anchor for 24 Oras. Outside of his work in television, he is also famous as a triathlete and a motorcycle enthusiast.
