Horror filmmaker Kenneth Dagatan’s 2015 directorial debut Sanctissima, about an abortionist with a dark secret, won the audience award at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. His sophomore horror feature Ma (2018) was screened at the New York Asian Film Festival, while his third, In My Mother’s Skin (2023), is the only non-English language and first Philippine horror film to screen in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival.
