A young Malaysian female pro golfer who compete at the LPGA

Top Malaysian female pro golfer and Olympian Kelly Tan started to play golf when she was 12 after her father turned her to the game and knew she wanted to play golf professionally by 15.

She first started competing in SportExcel Junior League events where she was discovered by the Malaysian Ladies Golf Association and was recruited to train with the national team. She represented Malaysia at Open Championships in the region and soon had her sight set on playing on the LPGA. On a scholarship, she attended and graduated from IMG Golf Academy and later qualified to enter LPGA Q-School, where she got her LPGA Tour card.

She played her first LPGA Tour in Bahamas in 2014. Not unaccustomed to adversities especially financial-wise as a pro golfer trying to reach golf’s top tier, she had one of her most challenging years in 2017 when one of her major sponsors pulled out. She also lost her full LPGA status that year.

Picking herself back up with the support of family and friends, she participated in and won several tours, making her way back to the LPGA, receiving class A/Veteran status and later regaining full status. Besides taking part in various golf tours locally and internationally on top LGPA including Professional Golf Malaysia Tours, Symetra Tour and Race to CME Globe, she has also represented Malaysia in the SEA Games, and two Olympics – 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In 2020, Tan got engaged to Dustin Lattery, after five years together.
