Focuses on empowering marginalised communities through legal aid and education

With a background as a lawyer and mediator, Kay McArdle has utilised her expertise to make the legal system more accessible. Equal Justice, the non-profit she established, focuses on empowering marginalised communities through legal aid and education. The organisation offers a multi-faceted approach to bridging the access-to-justice gap in Hong Kong by connecting individuals with pro bono, low-cost, or legally aided legal assistance, as well as empowering the public and frontline workers with legal knowledge, training them to identify potential legal issues early. Equal Justice’s first social impact legal education platform portal, PAT—Pregnant @ Work, won the Ant Group Legal Innovation/Law Tech for Good Award 2022. Since its launch in 2020, it has helped almost 2,000 individuals.

McArdle was previously the CEO of PathFinders, the charity that works for Hong Kong’s most vulnerable children and their migrant mothers. She is also a published author on access to justice.

“My father always said, when you have time, give your time. If you don’t have time, give advice—your talent, the second ‘T’. And if you have money, even if it’s a little, give some money, [your treasure]—the three ‘T’s.”
