Broadcast journalist, GMA Network
A fearless documentarist and educator elevating Philippine public discourse through investigative storytelling
Kara David stands as one of the most respected figures in Philippine journalism, a documentarist whose career at GMA Network has spanned nearly three decades and helped shape the national understanding of poverty, injustice and the human condition. As a longtime host of I-Witness, she has become synonymous with courageous investigative reporting and empathetic storytelling that amplifies marginalized voices and provokes critical social dialogue.
Beyond her on-air work, David serves as chairperson of the Department of Journalism at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she bridges academic rigour with real-world media practice. Her leadership in the classroom moulds the next generation of journalists with a strong grounding in ethics, public service and accountability.
Her global impact was underscored when she received the Star Icon for Investigative Journalism and Media Excellence at the Global Filipino Icon Awards 2025 in Dubai. Her excellence within Philippine media was further affirmed at the 38th PMPC Star Awards for Television, where she and her I-Witness co-hosts were named Best Documentary Program Hosts. At the 37th PMPC Star Awards, she was recognized both as Best Documentary Program Host and Best Lifestyle/Travel Show Host, demonstrating her versatility and depth across genres.
David’s body of work has sparked conversations that extend far beyond awards. Her documentaries have shaped public consciousness, informed policy discussions and amplified stories often left unheard. As both storyteller and educator, she continues to define journalism as a force for learning, accountability and democratic dialogue—one of the most influential voices shaping Philippine media today.
