The chef and owner is behind Toyo, one of Asia’s best restaurants

As the culinary leader, chef and owner of Toyo Eatery, Navarra also steers the ship for Panaderya Toyo, Inatô, and Azukitoyo, continuing to shape the conversation around modern Filipino cuisine. Since opening Toyo Eatery in 2016, he has championed Philippine gastronomy, both honouring its roots and reinterpreting the country’s diverse culinary heritage with creativity and respect.

They have been named as part of Tatler Best Philippines Top 20 restaurants, and Tatler Best Asia’s top 100 restaurants for 2025. Once again, Toyo Eatery has also earned its place among Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, ranking No. 24 and retaining its title as the Philippines’ best restaurant for the fifth consecutive year. Both Toyo and Inatô were further honoured with One Michelin Star.

For Navarra, Toyo has always been about reassessing, rediscovering, and nurturing a deeper understanding of Filipino culture through food. He continues to celebrate the growth of Barangay Toyo through the development of Inatô and their kakigōri dessert shop, Azukitoyo, proudly uplifting an ever-expanding community of cooks, artisans, and farmers who share his vision. As Toyo approaches its tenth anniversary, Navarra and his team are reimagining the menu, evolving Panaderya Toyo, and travelling across the Philippines to build stronger relationships with local producers.

At the heart of it all is Navarra’s enduring belief that food is deeply personal. Through Toyo, he hopes to inspire curiosity and pride in Filipino food, while fostering a network of communities that sustain and celebrate it.

Jordy Navarra’s wife, May, is the general manager of his restaurant concepts. He jokingly calls her his boss, but also takes pride in the insight and strategy that her background in finance brings to the business. Her shift from the corporate world to the F&B scene is no small feat, and Navarra makes sure to celebrate that.
