Third-generation Lippo Group scion, and head of Lippo Karawaci, John Riady is one of Indonesia’s brightest political and economic minds with multiple concurrent positions across law, journalism and business

Mochtar Riady’s grandson John Riady is nothing short of prolific. The CEO of Lippo Karawaci also holds various positions with the group that the Riady patriarch founded and grew to be one of South-East Asia’s economic titans. Despite his business commitments, John Riady is also a law professor and journalist.

Riady serves as the editor at large of the English-language online newspaper Jakarta Globe and teaches law at the Universitas Pelita Harapan in North Jakarta, a co-educational higher-education institution founded by his father in 1993.

Born in New York, Riady took up Political Philosophy and Economics at Georgetown University in Washington DC. He earned his MBA at the prestigious Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Palmer Scholar. In 2011, he finished his Juris Doctor degree at Columbia University School of Law, and now practises law in New York.

Riady also serves on the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on South-East Asia and the Columbia University International Advisory Board.
