With over two decades in show business, John Lloyd Cruz is one of the Philippines’s most sought-after actors. He began acting at age 15 and now has over 30 productions behind him, including movies that often break records and rake millions of pesos.

In 2007 Cruz starred in Cathy Garcia-Molina’s modern classic One More Chance with actress Bea Alonzo. For his performance, the actor won prestigious awards, including Box Office King at the 38th Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box Office Entertainment Awards and Best Performance by an Actor in a Lead Role at the 5th ENPRESS Golden Screen Awards. In 2015 the actor branched out into film production, starring and producing Honor Thy Father. His performance earned him the Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival and the Best Actor trophy at the Gawad Urian. In 2016, Cruz was part of the Metro Manila Film Festival jury. In 2019, he debuted as a music video director for indie pop band Sugar Hiccup’s “Saturnine Nevermore”.

After a four-year hiatus Cruz signed a partnership with GMA Network in 2021, cementing his place in show business. In 2023, he worked with award-winning director Lav Diaz for the film Essential Truths of Lake. His performance won him the Boccalino d’Oro (Golden Jug Award) at Switzerland's 76th Locarno Film Festival.
