Joe Taslim is a popular Indonesian actor. Born Johannes Taslim on June 23, 1981, he learned martial-arts skills from an early age—skills which would be pivotal in his many movie action roles in the future. He later on mastered judo, taekwondo, pencak silat and wushu. He is a well-decorated martial artist, having won a gold medal in the 1999 Southeast Asian Judo Championships, a gold medal at the 2008 National Sports Week and a silver medal at the 2007 SEA Games.

Taslim first broke into Hollywood in 2010, landing the role of Sergeant Jaka in the award-winning, Jakarta-set movie The Raid. In 2013, he played the villainous mercenary Jah in Fast and Furious 6 and joined the cast of Star Trek Beyond in 2016, playing Manas alongside Idris Elba, who played Captain Balthazar Edison. In 2019, he played Sub-Zero in the film reboot of Mortal Kombat.

Back home in Indonesia, Taslim has been involved in several films including the action-comedy film Hit & Run and Sri Asih. He grew up in Lorong Tunggal in Palembang, South Sumatra, and is married to Ju-Li, with whom he has three children.
