Founder, Malaysia International Film Festival
She champions Malaysia’s film industry on the global stage
Joanne Goh, a seasoned figure in the entertainment industry, has made a remarkable impact over the past three decades. Her success in organising more than a hundred concerts and showcases, with a track record of achieving nearly a hundred million USD in ticket sales and securing partnerships with leading international brands, is truly impressive.
In 2016, Goh expanded her vision to the film industry, stepping into roles as an executive producer and producer. Driven by a desire to uplift Malaysia’s cinematic landscape, she founded the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest). Since its establishment, MIFFest has grown into a major event, drawing international attention to Malaysia’s film industry and serving as a critical platform for artistic and cultural exchange. This year’s MIFFest honoured two individuals, Indonesian actress Christine Hakim and Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda.
Goh’s leadership has not only helped to bring global filmmakers to Malaysia but also opened doors for local talents to reach international audiences. Her commitment to fostering a thriving film community has made MIFFest the central hub of the Malaysian film industry every July.
