The patent-data pioneer leveraging AI to democratise complex intellectual property insights

Jeffrey Tiong started PatSnap in 2007 on a S$55,000 student grant, with a simple goal: to make complex patent data accessible to anyone, not just lawyers. The idea was born from his work-study experience at a US medical device startup, where he saw firsthand how opaque and inaccessible IP research could be.

By 2025, PatSnap had surpassed US$140 million in annual recurring revenue, posting 20 per cent year-on-year growth driven by AI-led innovation. That year, the company also launched PatentBench, an industry-first artificial intelligence (AI) benchmarking tool for patent novelty search that compares the performance of generative AI models—including Patsnap's proprietary agents and systems such as ChatGPT—on complex intellectual property tasks. PatSnap counts Disney, Nasa and Tesla among its more than 15,000 clients across 50 countries.

Tiong remains a vocal advocate for using AI to accelerate scientific discovery, particularly in life sciences and materials research. In June 2026, PatSnap confidentially filed for a dual IPO listing on the Hong Kong and Singapore stock exchanges, targeting a raise of US$300 to $400 million and marking the next chapter in Tiong’s mission to make patent data foundational infrastructure for how the world invents, protects and commercialises ideas.
