It takes guts to open a hotel in the middle of a pandemic, which CEO Jeffrey Darmadi has bravely done with the launch of Andaz Bali—the first Andaz hotel to open in Indonesia

Despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, Jakarta Seitabudi Internasional’s CEO Jeffrey Darmadi was able to rally his team to open Andaz Bali in April. To business insiders, his confidence comes as no surprise being the scion of pioneering property titan, Jan Darmadi.

Located beside a charming seaside village in Sanur just over 20 minutes from the airport, Andaz Bali has all the makings of a top draw. For one, Darmadi preserved Sanur's old-world atmosphere by building around the existing century-old vegetation. The hotel, on the other hand, articulates an imaginary image of Sanur 20 years down the line, to blend the village’s past and future.

Harvard-educated Darmadi is in step with the times, configuring the hotel to cater not just to tourists but also to people who work remotely—a new guest category with strong potential. He is his father’s son, after all, in his ability to find opportunities even in a time of crisis.
