Christian Action champions the rights of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong

Jeffrey Andrews is a prominent social worker and advocate for ethnic minority rights in Hong Kong, particularly within the South Asian community. Born to Indian parents in Hong Kong, he has experienced firsthand the challenges of discrimination and marginalisation. Over the past decade, Andrews has dedicated himself to fighting for equality and understanding, addressing systemic issues such as racial profiling and limited opportunities for ethnic minorities.

As the manager of the non-profit organisation Christian Action, he oversees the only drop-in centre in Hong Kong for refugees and asylum seekers. His work includes providing essential services like hot meals and counselling, as well as spearheading anti-racism campaigns to foster cultural sensitivity. Notably, he has launched initiatives such as a refugee football team called United Colours of Christian Action. “I am proud [of the work we are doing to] help make the word ‘refugee’ no longer a negative term in our society,” he said to Tatler.

His commitment to social justice has gained international recognition. He has spoken at the United Nations on racial segregation in schools and received multiple awards for his contributions to racial harmony, including accolades from the Hong Kong government and football club Manchester United.
