In 2016, Jarrold Ong’s company Swat Mobility launched Asia’s first-ever dynamic on-demand coach service, with the aim of “organising the movement of entire cities to allow more efficient and greener urbanisation”. Aiming to make commutes more efficient and eco-friendly, the Singapore-based company uses an algorithm to calculate the optimal sequence of pick-ups and drop-offs in order to minimise walking distance, journey time and fleet size. The company is currently in seven countries across the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan and Australia, and has its sights set on entering Mainland China in the near future.
