Ex-tech executive and passionate leader on a mission to keep public transport fares equitable

Janet Ang is a distinguished figure in Singapore’s public and private sectors, with a career dedicated to leadership and service. In 2022, Ang took the helm as Chairperson of the Public Transport Council (PTC), becoming the first woman to fulfil the role. It is her responsibility to ensure that public transport fares remain affordable while also safeguarding the long-term financial viability of the public transport system.

This honour builds upon her 2021 appointment as Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP). Ang’s tenure as an NMP is a contribution to Singapore’s legislative process, ensuring that a diverse range of voices are heard in the nation’s decision-making. Her commitment to the community is further evident through her role as the Non-Resident Ambassador of Singapore to the Holy See.

In the corporate world, Ang spent the last 37 years in the information technology industry, most recently as Vice President, Industry Solutions, of IBM Asia Pacific.

Beyond her influence in the tech space, Ang chairs the Singapore Polytechnic, NUS Institute of Systems Science, and SISTIC.com, among others.

Her remarkable contributions have been acknowledged with numerous awards, including The Public Service Medal in 2019; the Singapore Computer Society IT Leaders Award – Hall of Fame in 2018; the NUS Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2015; and the NUS Business School Eminent Alumni Award in 2014. Ang is a mother of four.
