A noted businessman behind many Indonesian enterprises, including property giant Jakarta Setiabudi Internasional, Jan Darmadi also dabbles in politics and government

Jan Darmadi is one of Indonesia’s most influential business and political figures. A property entrepreneur, he is the founder of Jakarta Setiabudi Internasional, one of the nation’s most prominent real estate investment and development conglomerates, which he founded in 1975. It controls over 1.4 million square meters of residential land, 11 hotels and 40,000 square metres of rental area, among other real estate assets.

Darmadi owns some of the capital’s most recognisable structures like the Mandarin Jakarta Hotel, Mercure Ancol, Jakarta Theater and the Setiabudi Building.

He has also figured in politics. Darmadi was appointed in 2015 as a member of President Joko Widodo’s Presidential Advisory Council (or the Wantimpres), and was also the chairman of the upper house of the National Democrat party (NasDem).

The son of the late casino mogul Dadi Darma, Jan Darmadi likes to hunt pigs in the forest of Sumatra and is into martial arts like kung-fu.
