Jamie Lin is proving start-ups are thriving in Taiwan with long-time accelerator AppWorks

Jamie Lin is general manager of Taiwan Big Brother Group as well as the chairman of start-up accelerator AppWorks. The only businessman in a family of famous doctors, Lin graduated from the Department of Chemistry at National Taiwan University and obtained an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Seeing the rise of new technology platforms like the iPhone and Android, he recognized business opportunities in the venture capital industry for Taiwan. He returned home to establish AppWorks, introducing the concept of start-up accelerators to the country.

Ten years later, AppWorks is flourishing in the country’s venture capital ecosystem—in 2020, the total value of the ecosystem's new ventures exceeded US$10 billion. Lin continues to actively promote the establishment of a digital economic development department in the government and education reform.
