James Wan, a critically acclaimed Malaysian-born filmmaker, producer and screenwriter, is a mastermind in the horror genre, best known for creating popular horror franchises like The Conjuring, Saw, and Insidious. Regarded as one of the most creative filmmakers working today, he has also ventured into superhero blockbusters with Aquaman and the action-packed Furious 7, both grossing more than US$1 billion each. Wan runs his own production company, Atomic Monster Productions, and is currently immersed in several projects, including the highly anticipated Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, M3GAN 2.0, Saw X, and Insidious: The Red Door.

Born in Kuching in the Bornean state of Sarawak, Wan and his family moved to Australia when he was seven. After he graduated with a media degree at RMIT University, Melbourne. he made his directorial debut with Saw, which he co-wrote with frequent collaborator Leigh Whannell. The movie’s incredible success at the box office led to a string of sequels that were also overwhelmingly well-received, cementing Saw as the world’s highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. Since then, Wan has established himself as one of the most successful directors, producers and writers in Hollywood with one hit franchise after another.

In 2019, Wan married Romanian actress Ingrid Bisu, with whom he co-wrote and co-produced his latest horror movie Malignant.
