Isa Lorenzo

Founder, Silverlens Gallery

The artist and gallery owner promotes Filipino and Southeast Asian art internationally

Isa Lorenzo founded Silverlens as a photo gallery in 2004, with her partner Rachel Rillo joining her as co-director in 2007. In the following years, Silverlens grew to become one of the Philippines’ most prolific, well-known art galleries and a home to Filipino art of different modes and mediums.

Silverlens regularly participates in international art fairs and shows, representing award-winning artists from Southeast Asia, including Malaysian photographer Yee I-Lann and Hugo Boss Asia Art 2015 award winner Maria Taniguchi. Its 1,200 sqm location along Chino Roces Avenue holds exhibition spaces, offices, a lounge area and studios. In September 2022, Silverlens branched out to the Chelsea neighbourhood of New York City, signifying a broader representation of Southeast Asian artists in the United States.

Lorenzo and Rillo also started the Lubi Art Residency, providing artists a platform to showcase fully carbon-neutral public installations. The programme’s first cycle of artists is due to showcase new artworks by March 2024.

Lorenzo has also served on the board of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines and advises many prominent private collections. As an artist, she has shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the UNESCO House in Paris, as well as at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Metropolitan Museum in Manila. Her pieces are in the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Collection and private collections in other countries. She is the recipient of the Jenesys Grant of the Japan Foundation at the Tokyo Wonder Site and the Berlin Arts Program of the Goethe-Institut.
