In a country rich with medicinal plants, Irwan Hidayat controls the biggest herbal-products maker in Indonesia, Sido Muncul, which has been handed down through three generations of the family.

The grandson of the company’s founder Rahmat Sulistio, Hidayat inherited Sido Muncul in 1972 alongside his four brothers. During his time as director, he has modernised the company’s many factories amid changing regulations; in particular, he created guidelines to lower its environmental impact through energy management and sustainable development.

In recognition of its efforts, the company has been given the Green Award by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry for several years.
